Police moved in on several occasions to keep the two sides apart. No injuries were reported and police did not say if anyone was detained or taken into custody.“We came here to protest peacefully, we don’t really have any intention to be aggressive against anybody. But as you can see, they are also from inside responding, giving nonsense gestures against the youths to provoke them,” a spokesperson for the protesters told CityNews. “These youths who are opposing the government, they call them not Eritreans and they call them names – it’s easy to provoke them.”CityNews attempted to speak with a representative of the event but ...Fans celebrate HBCU history as Chicago Football Classic returns to Soldier Field

FORT COLLINS — For a team with bowl game aspirations, Week 1 proved Colorado State still has a tall mountain to climb.Washington State rolled the Rams in the season opener on Saturday at Canvas Stadium, 50-24, in a game that wasn’t even as close as the score indicated.CSU’s offense showed few signs of life, while the defense recovered two fumbles but gave up way too many chunk passes and couldn’t stuff the run when they needed to.The end result was the same bland, uninspiring brand of football CSU’s played over its previous five seasons — all losing campaigns. For Rams fans looking for a silver lining in the start to Year 2 under coach Jay Norvell, they were hard to find.“That was disappointing, to say the least,” Norvell said. “I see a little bit of a lack of confidence from our guys, especially when things weren’t going our way. We’ve just got to fight through that.”CSU’s defense forced a quick punt to s...More rain on the way for Southern California

SAN MATEO — Serra left no doubt. There was no need for a dramatic comeback, no need to sweat out the final minutes of another Northern California heavyweight matchup against De La Salle.Serra had two defining moments in what became a 28-0 victory on Saturday over the storied opponent from Concord: A 99-yard touchdown drive in the final minutes of the opening half that broke a scoreless tie and a relentless defense that kept pounding and pounding until it became the first team since Clovis West in 2005 to shut out De La Salle. It was DLS’s worst shutout loss since Salesian beat the Spartans 32-0 in 1979.When Saturday’s game ended, Serra had completed a sweep of its closest pursuers in NorCal’s hierarchy, De La Salle and Folsom, for the second year in a row.But unlike a week ago, when the Padres started fast but didn’t play a complete game against Folsom, the San Mateo powerhouse felt much better about its performance Saturday.“Of course, the signatur...Lipcius, Cabrera and Olson power the Tigers to a 10-0 rout of the White Sox
