‘Brazen act’: 5 people shot near Bladensburg Peace Cross while leaving funeral

Five people were shot near the Peace Cross Memorial in Bladensburg, Maryland, Friday afternoon while leaving a nearby funeral, according to the Bladensburg Police Department.Chief Tyrone Collington Sr. said all of the victims are alive. Sources tell WTOP news partner 7News three of the victims are in critical condition. The shooting happened just before 12:30 p.m., in the 4300 block of Bladensburg Road, near the intersection with Annapolis Road.Collington said the five people who were shot were leaving a funeral at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, when at least one person in another vehicle started shooting at their vehicle.“This is uncommon in this community,” Collington said. “This was an unnecessary, senseless act of violence.”No arrests have been made, and police do not know how many shooters may have been involved. Boston police are turning to the public for help as they search for a 54-year-old Boston man who is facing charges in connection with a brazen shooting in the North End on Wednesday night that left a bullet hole in the window of Modern Pastry.Patrick Mendoza is being sought on a warrant bringing charges including assault to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon (gun), unlawful possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and witness intimidation in connection with the 11 p.m. shooting on Hanover Street, according to Boston police. Police are investigating after a pickup truck was stolen in Dorchester on Friday with a child still inside of it and shocking new video shows the moment the suspect removed the child in a car seat and abandoned them on the side of the road before driving off.Surveillance video obtained by 7NEWS shows the black truck pull up to the corner of Geneva Avenue before the driver can be seen lowering a car seat with the child inside onto the curb and driving away.
