OAKLAND — A Bay Area man has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison for killing a man during a confrontation at a local gas station, court records show.Brian LeGrand Jr., 37, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the March 25, 2021 shooting death of 29-year-old Derrick Glenn. LeGrand was identified as a suspect after an anonymous tipster told police LeGrand blamed Glenn for the drug overdose death of a relative.Video surveillance of the shooting showed a man with a tattoo on his neck pulling a gun and shooting Glenn after the two spoke for about 15 minutes. Police say they matched the neck tattoo from the video to LeGrand. At LeGrand’s August preliminary hearing, the defense argued video showed Glenn had a gun next to him as he sat in his car, and that he must have made a move for the weapon just before LeGrand produced his own pistol and fired.LeGrand entered his no contest plea in July, and was sentenced Aug. 16. Superior Court.Except for the first six words, the letters are identical. (Cauce’s version is below.) They begin by explaining that the Pacific Northwest powers would not sign “a grant of media rights authorization” — the move that sent five other schools fleeing to other leagues and triggered the Pac-12’s collapse. The letters then state that Washington and Oreg...

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Loud jeers rang around Old Trafford on Saturday as Manchester United fans reacted angrily to manager Erik ten Hag’s decision to take off new signing Rasmus Hojlund in a 3-1 loss to Brighton. United was trailing 2-0 when Hojlund, an $82 million signing from Atalanta, was replaced by substitute Anthony Martial in the 64th. Boos filled the air when the Denmark forward’s number came up on the electronic board and he started to jog to the touchline. Hojlund, making his first start for his new club and his first appearance in front of its home fans, had already seen a first-half goal ruled out by VAR. But with United needing to get back into the game after going behind to strikes from Danny Welbeck and Pascal Gross, Ten Hag decided to withdraw him in a bid to mount a comeback. Hojlund missed the start of the season while recovering from injury and that might have been a reason for his substitution. But the crowd appeared unimpressed and vociferously ...
